This shot was taken at 8:40 am, just before the fog rolled in...see photo above.

THE GARLIC FESTIVAL

Every August for the past 9 years, the South Cariboo comes alive with the sights (and most definitely the SMELLS) of GARLIC. The event is the South Cariboo Garlic Festival in 100 Mile House!

This event has been growing over the years, and is now a major attraction in the BC Interior. Dates for 2009 - the 10th anniversary of the Festical - are August 29 & 30.

Music (?) To
Their Ears

We've come across a "new" theory on how to warn the bears you're coming...it's called "singing". Yes, some people have had success with singing while they're out for a walk in bear country. Apparently much better than whistling, singing lets the bears know you're there and there's no mistake that you're a human and they then avoid you.

We neither confirm or deny this one...just thought it was interesting. Besides, singing a song is a pretty nice way to go for an enjoyable walk in the woods. It's not clear to us if you have to be on key or not in order for this to be effective. We doubt that the bears are skilled music critics, but then again, who knows?
